ADELE MYERS (Contemporary Dance Technique) formative life as a mover began with ballet, track and field events, baton twirling, balancing on top of big red oil drums rolling down steep hills, and other fearless feats of childhood dare deviltry; all of which seriously informed the kind of dancer and choreographer she later became. She recently moved to Miami, FL where she is currently teaching at New World School of the Arts, and is the Artistic Director of a national touring contemporary dance company, Adele Myers and Dancers. The company is made up of four female athletes of the heart and recently completed a National Dance Project supported seven-city tour throughout the east coast including to the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, MA. With support from the National Performance Network, Adele Myers and Dancers is currently developing ‘The Dancing Room’ an intimate and interactive evening-length collaboration featuring media artist, John Slepian. Adele was an Assistant Professor of Dance at Tulane University and more recently at Connecticut College. She earned an MFA in Dance from Florida State University and a PhD (ABD) in Performance Studies at New York University.

Class Description

Contemporary Dance Technique: Thrill of Motion

The purpose of this technique class is to inspire dancers to MOVE! The full-bodied phrase work is designed for dancers eager to experience the thrill of motion. We’ll move from the get go while focusing on the balance between effort and ease and artistry and technique. Throughout we return to the importance of core stabilization and keeping alignment in check for a physically thoughtful and thrilling experience.
