Young Dancer Workshops

For more than 15 years, the Florida Dance Association has offered an annual weekend workshop specifically geared toward young dancers, from middle to high school age. The weekend workshop includes a variety of technique classes plus a showcase performances.

Workshop Overview

 

The Florida Dance Association's Gulf Coast Young Dancer Workshop is a three-day dance event, for middle and high school students, that includes dance classes, performance opportunities, audition and scholarships for summer intensives, and more. This year's host school Manatee School for the Arts, located at 700 Haben Blvd. Palmetto, FL 34221, and all classes will take place at this location.

 

Please note that the on-site check in is on  Friday January 13th from 6pm-7:30pm. It will be followed by an Opening Night Performance by Moving Current Dance Collective and Sarasota Contemporary Dance. 

Tuition and Fees

Registration Fee: 

$50 

$150 - (Includes 1 year FDA Membership)

FDA Member - $110 per student 

Non - FDA Member $135 per student

Submission Guidelines

Please review the following guidelines for the Young Dancers Young Dancers Performance.

  1. Each institution is allowed to submit ONE piece.
  2. All pieces have a maximum time of 6 minutes - NO EXCEPTIONS.
  3. Tech will be on Saturday January 14th  from 2:45pm to 5pm
  4. Feedback will be given during tech by Guest Faculty  O'Neal and Serpa.
  5. Video submission can be emailed to floridadanceinfo@gmail.com by December 12th.

The Florida Dance Association is excited to welcome Earl Mosley's Diversity of Dance as our company in residence. Hailed by the New York Times for its “fresh intelligence, crackling imagination, hilarity and terrific performing,” Earl Mosley’s Diversity of Dance has performed at the Joyce SoHo, Jacob’s Pillow’s Inside/Out, New York Parks Foundation Summer Stage and Brooklyn Dance Festival. Since his Dance Magazine Teacher of the Year honor in 2005, Mosley has created several long standing programs, teaching residencies and outreach programs in schools in various regions of the country and abroad. High School dancers will begin at Santa Fe College on Friday Oct, 28th and the University of Florida on Saturday Oct 29th. Middle School dancers will begin at the University of Florida on Friday Oct. 28th and Santa Fe College on Saturday Oct 29th.

 

Florida Dance Festival & Earl Mosley Summer Intensive Audition:
Saturday, October 29, 2016 12 - 1 PM
Location: Santa Fe College

Representatives from the Florida Dance Association and Florida College/ University dance programs will be observing auditions. Tables will be set up in the Fine Arts Hall lobby with information about all of Florida Summer Dance Programs.

Non FDA Member $150 - (Includes 1 year FDA Membership)

For Non Members - $135 per student

Showcase Performance

In hopes of providing equal opportunity for every participating group, every group will performance in a showcase performance. Please review the following rules for our showcase performance:

  1. All groups only submit one piece
  2. All pieces have a maximum time of 6 minutes - NO EXCEPTIONS
  3. All groups get 8 tech cues
  4. All groups tech the day of their showcase

 

Video and Music Submissions:

All submissions are due, in costume, by Oct. 10th..

All information, (music, videos and tech sheets) can uploaded to Dropbox or e-mailed to tech.theatre@sfcollege.edu. (Email tech.theatre@sfcollege.edu for Dropbox invite.) Videos may also be provided via YouTube or Vimeo.
